Fort Island Gulf Beach, Crystal River

Great little beach to spend some family time. We had fun collecting and then releasing hermit crabs. There are a few picnic tables and a grill for daytime activities. The water deepens gradually which is nice for kids.

We go to beaches on both coasts and I have to say that we really enjoyed visiting this beach with our 4 yr old. We went on a Tuesday and the place was empty. Flat calm warm water was fantastic and a nice change from getting blasted by Atlantic waves. The brown tinged water is typical of beaches in this part of the coast and is much cleaner than Cedar Key. Covered picnic tables... Couple of grills and Lots of free parking..bathrooms and showers ...fishing pier .. Boat ramp and nature trails, even a Nuke Plant. Has it all! We love going to Three Sisters Spring in the winter but I am glad we checked this place out. Definitely goin to visit again and catch an awesome Gulf sunset.
