We spent a few hours visiting this historic and very sobering site. The visitor center remains closed due to COVID. We walked up to the old monument and spent time at the newer circle memorial. A... more »
We went again in April 2021. The visitor center was closed due to Covid, they say. Really ruined the whole experience for us. The last time we went it was during the summer and we couldn't get... more »
A place that completely silenced me... First time visitors from Belgium and though my expectations were set pretty high in advance, never thought it would leave me with such a deep impression! Firstly by seeing the vast and huge landscape : nature there is one well camouflaged hiding place as though you may 'think' you can see far - which in a way is true - you wouldn't notice a sniper laying down in the grass 10 yards away from you! So that alone made me think of how it must've been like during the battle. Secondly, the museum (visitors center) is so interesting and has a very good collection of original items. What completely surprised me was reading that a certain Musket was made in Belgium!! Never knew this... ☹️ Belgium, a tiny wee country obviously having had its hand in many negative, historical happenings. Shameful. And so is the fact of the American politics at the time...slaughtering Indians to near extinction for a handful of gold and land. Custer had it coming!
Spectacular views of this historic area. I had chills it was so moving. Took my 2 dogs with me and they stayed in the car as per the instructions. We did the auto tour using the CD I bought at the Visitor Center. We got there right after opening at 8am so it wasn't too hot yet. Best of all, used my America the Beautiful pass and was able to enter without paying a fee. If you are a history buff, put this at the top of your Must See list. Enjoy!
