Vista House is a museum at Crown Point in Multnomah County, Oregon, that also serves as a memorial to Oregon pioneers and as a comfort station for travelers on the Historic Columbia River Highway. The site, situated on a rocky promontory, is 733 feet (223 m) above the Columbia River on the south side of the Columbia River Gorge. The octagonal stone building was designed by Edgar M. Lazarus in the style of Art Nouveau, and completed in 1918 after nearly two years of construction.Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Vista House by using our Corbett road trip site.
In 2000, restoration on the building began, and lasted five years. The Vista House is located within the Corbett city limits, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Vista House reviews
We were visiting the Columbia River Gorge, camping in Troutdale. We came here first by car while on a long drive thru the gorge. The house was closed due to Covid but it sure looked interesting... more »
During our visit the inside of Vista House was closed due to covid, but we still considered a stop worthwhile. The parking lot was open and from the parking lot visitors have the most beautiful view.... more »
This place is amazing to take in, the view of the Columbia River is staggering, you're viewing history right there. It is a long a wonderful Mt view road that is historic in it's self, the drive there is breathtaking. The historic facility has guides, helpers and all such wonderful people. The gift shop has some trinkets to take home. It also has a coffee shop. The restrooms are very clean and the parking is plentiful. It does have handicap parking ramps and a elevator to the basement. You will need to be mindful of young children running around due to the place being high up on a Mt top.
It's really the view that's killer here. A lot of people focus on multnomah or some of the other waterfalls in the gorge, but if you're going sightseeing you need to start here. World class view, plus an amazing piece of classic architecture that's actually kind of hard to find out west. It says house, but it's made of stone and marble, brass fixtures and all. My daughters call it a castle and that would probably be a better description for it than house. It's got some neat historical displays inside that share about the house and the history of tourism in the gorge. If you're making a day of the gorge (like you should) start here, take in the view, learn a little bit about what you're going to see the rest of the day, get your morning coffee in vista house's little coffee shop and take the old scenic highway and thank me later.
