Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Clearwater

#2 of 61 in Zoos & Aquariums in Florida
Aquarium · Hidden Gem · Zoo / Aquarium
More than just a marine animal attraction, Clearwater Marine Aquarium is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of injured animals. The aquarium opened in 1972 with a mission to educate the public about the importance of animal conservation. The aquarium took over a facility that once housed a local water treatment plant. You can learn about the aquarium's continued efforts to rehabilitate sick and injured animals by visiting its working hospital, which houses river otters, bottlenose dolphins, sea turtles, stingrays, and sharks. Get involved and stay in touch with your favorite marine mammal by becoming a friend, protector, or guardian of one of the aquarium's permanent residents. Check online for adoption levels and animals currently in need of financial support. • Lots to see, pricey but I figured it went towards rehabilitation so worth it. Winter and Hope are there from the Dolphin Tale movies.  more »
  • We took our kids for my son’s birthday. It was cool. It was a little confusing to navigate so we may have missed some stuff. Also it was kind of crowded so some exhibits were hard to get a good view.....  more »
  • I just visited here with family while in town evading Dorian. We caught a great special in September for FL residents. My kids enjoyed all the interactive talks about the various animals. The main treat was Winter and Hope for my daughter thanks to the Dolphin Tale movies. The show with the dolphin Nicholas was very fun as well. It was a great time for everyone. I would go back again and let the kids have more fun.
  • This aquarium truly is a treasure. Everything is geared towards the animals' health, welfare and safety. They are an amazing place to visit if you truly love marine life and strive to educate yourself or children on how to be better stewards of the oceans. I highly recommend! Winter and her friends are all inspirations!
