Just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, discover Mingo Falls. The 36.5 m (120 ft) waterfall is one of the tallest falls in the southern Appalachians. Take a short hike along Pigeon Creek Trail to view the falls. The hike is only 0.65 km (0.4 mi) but includes many steep steps, making it a bit of a challenging climb. At the top of the stairs, you'll see and feel the mist of the powerful falls. There are no facilities other than parking here, but you'll find services in the town of Cherokee just a few miles south. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Cherokee holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Mingo Falls and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

The falls were beautiful. A must see while in Cherokee. We walked the many steps to reach the falls and it was well worth it. more »

I'm a huge waterfall enthusiast, and I've always hated how most waterfall trails go downhill first, then you have to walk uphill the second half of your journey. Well, not with this one! Prepare for..... more »

Most beautiful place that I have ever been to! Great parking at the bottom of the steps. Once you go up the stairs and follow the trail, you arrive at beautiful Mingo Falls. If you want to see a beautiful sight and you love nature, this is the place for you.

Beautiful and fairly easy to access unless you are mobility impaired (158 steps of varying sizes). There is a small trail at the top that leads to Upper Mingo Falls, which are equally beautiful, but it is quite dangerous as the trail traveses the top of Mingo Falls itself over slippery rocks close to the edge. Do not try this unless you are experienced and have appropriate shoes and safety gear.
