Must see · Bridge · Tourist Spot
Take a walk across the centerpiece of Chattanooga's riverfront, Walnut Street Bridge, one of the world's longest pedestrian bridges. The 724 m (2,376 ft) camelback truss was built in 1890. One side will lead you to the modern, vibrant part of the city, and the other to the famed arts district. Considered to be an extremely old example of its type, the bridge is one of the United States' National Historic Places. • Cool bridge to walk on and see some amazing views. A bit disappointed at the dog poop that was tracked all over it. People should be ashamed of themselves for not picking it up. It was also a bit...  more »

  • Great relaxing place to visit. Great view of the river. Great safe place to walk. Great place to people watch. Great place to see art displays. When the weather is nice you might even see a street musician or two. The historic bridge is connected with the Tennessee River walkway that connects the restaurants, shops, merry go round and river park with the Hunter art district, shops, restaurants, museums, and tourist attractions like the two aquariums, I-Max Theater, River Duck boat ride, river speed boat ride, river boat cruise, and Children's Science Museum on Chattanooga's South side. I recommend using the free electric shuttle, or renting one of the green bicycles if you find the walk between the sights, and attractions to be more walking than you want to do. Parking in Chattanooga can be scarce but the free electric shuttle makes even distant parking accessible as long as it is near the electric shuttle route. When you visit, you can bring yourself, a date, or the whole family. It is a Great place for everyone!
  • This bridge abruptly became one of the largest cornerstones of my life when I utilized it in one of the best decisions I've ever made in my existence. I took my beautiful girlfriend there, which is where it all began. Under the lights of the sky, I asked her to take a chance on me, and I kissed her next to the water upon that quick yes and gorgeous smile. That bridge captured a portion of my heart and soul, and I'm eternally grateful.
