To see how one of the largest aquariums in the world works, take a behind-the-scenes tour of Tennessee Aquarium. Tours offer a rare look at the filtering and food-preparation areas, with an additional stop at the aquarium's biggest habitat, a large tank filled with sand tiger and bonnethead sharks. Other highlights include an invertebrate gallery where you can see jellyfish, cuttlefish, giant octopuses, and spider crabs. Save some time for the "river journey" exhibit, which follows the path of a single raindrop from the Appalachian Mountains to the Gulf of Mexico. The aquarium also offers self-guided tours of three living forest exhibits teeming with wildlife that can be viewed from above and below the water's surface. • This is one of my favorite aquariums it is easy to move around in that spiral format and the kids love it. I wish they would open back up the butterfly exhibit but I understand.  more »
  • My favorite part was the otters. Take your time here because if covid there is no going back and forth-it’s a one way tour. My kids loved this and we did too. The price includes the fresh water and...  more »

  • Living in this area, you hear everyone raving about the aquarium. Yes it is a good, fun place to take the kids. It has a great location and does provide a great educational opportunity. And in reading other reviews, maybe I'm missing something. I remember taking my kids when they were young and even buying memberships, but as someone else said, its missing something. I think maybe, it has something to do with the way none of the staff really says much. I think maybe if there was more interaction with some kind of knowledgeable staff would be nice. I also understand there is a huge cost involved in this place, but I know a lot of people who live locally who have never been because they simply cannot afford to go. I think that's kind of the problem for me, I don't feel as though you get what you pay for. 3 adults and a toddler was $104 (the toddler was free) is, in my opinion, a lot to pay for a couple of hours. Definitely more than many people can budget for. Is it good? Yes. But it is definitely missing something. I would like to have more of an experience than just a visit for the price.
  • A spectacular aquarium experience! Huge aquarium exhibits, up close wildlife displays, and intimate presentations, they have all this and more. Both sections, ocean and river, have distinct feels and are both worthy of equal attention. There are also plenty of benches and places to sit and just gaze at the beautiful fish and relax. The staff were exceptional, of the half dozen tourist attractions my wife and I have visited here in Chattanooga these have been the nicest and most genuine hosts. Mark the Tennessee Aquarium as a must see destination.
