Choptank River Lighthouse, Cambridge

#5 of 16 in Things to do in Cambridge
Lighthouse · Hidden Gem · Landmark
Completed in 2012, this is a replica of the Choptank River Lighthouse that guided ships in the Choptank River until 1964, when it was dismantled by the U.S. Coast Guard. It served as an unforgettable icon to many—for generations of watermen, for visitors who came by steamboat, for sailors in regattas.

Today the replica has become a new icon for the city of Cambridge and all of Dorchester County, Maryland.

  • The water and atmosphere was very quiet. Very few people were visiting. We were able to get some nice pictures. The crabbers were getting ready for their next day.  more »
  • I had never seen a round lighthouse. They tend to be in rivers and bays as they don't have the ocean waves to contend with. We enjoyed the visit  more »
  • The views are breathtaking. Prepare to take pics, but it's really hard to capture the natural beauty digitally. Historical info was worth reading. I'd like to see a sunset from there.
  • My hometown ♥️ . I always drive to Longwharf for old times sake when I'm home. It's beautiful & the lighthouse ( added since I've moved away) is breath taking. Cambridge = Hometown proud ♥️
