Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Black Canyon Of The Gunnison National Park

Must see · Canyon · National Park
Visit Gunnison Natural Park to see the deepest part of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Some spots only get 33 minutes of sunlight a day. The jagged and dramatic cliffs formed millions of years ago when two volcanic islands collided. Take a scenic drive on U.S. Route 50 or 92, which offers views of the canyon walls along the rim. If you're an experienced climber, spend some time on the craggy walls, or watch others tackle the challenge. Hiking to the canyon floor is also an option, but keep in mind that the trails are rough and not maintained. Poison ivy grows along the trails, so long sleeves and tall hiking boots are recommended. • Get away from the crowds! Quite spectacular scenery, and easy to get to all the viewpoints. Well worth a visit to this under-appreciated gem.  more »
  • A small unit of the NPS. Reading the park info page, it says by standing at the rim you're 8000 feet above sea level. Wow! The south rim park scenic drive is only 7 miles, with 12 overlooks. For a...  more »
  • Expect astonishing views from Nature. One of the best experience and a unique landscape. If you expect BLACK colored canyons then beware its not black canyon due to black colored canyons. Its black canyon because few of the canyons are too narrow to pass the light and obviously they are dark. Recommendation is to get down at each spot and take the trail to the View Point. Although, you might find all points are same but its a beautiful experience in itself. 😊 Don't forget to Fill up your Gas Tank. Carry snacks and water with you. Stay Hydrated. P. S. You have to pay 20$ per Car to enter the area. It will take almost 2-4hrs to visit all points. Happy Exploring.
  • Beautiful place. Fantastic camping in the lower region. You have to carry your camp gear into the sites closest to the river; but the shade and beauty is by & far the best campsite I have ever visited.
