North Grand Mall is a 340,000-square-foot (32,000 m2) shopping center serving the city of Ames, Iowa. In 2006, plans were announced for a $30 million renovation and expansion. In 2004, a farmers' market operated at the mall. The mall's anchor stores are Kohl's, Gap, Shoe Carnival, TJ Maxx, North Grand Cinema, Milroy's Tuxedos, rue21, Happy Nails, Verizon, Teikiatsu Judo, Aveda, Buckle, and JCPenney. There are 2 vacant anchor stores that were once DressBarn and Younkers. Sears announced its closure in late 2008. The Sears building was torn down, with Kohl's, TJ Maxx, and Shoe Carnival opening on its site.
In 2017, then-owners GK Development sold the mall to a trio of investors.

  • It fit the needs of many in the town, could it be bigger-sure, but it is better than nothing. It would be nice to see more stores, but I think the additionals so far have been great and the upgrade...  more »
  • This is a struggling mall. They had a lower price theater, then decided to get rid of it, and got a couple big box stores added on. It still isn't bringing in many people. They are now considering...  more »
  • Slim pickins! Not very many stores to choose from. Better off shopping online for the most part. I would suggest calling ahead to the stores to see if they carry what you’re looking for before spending your time and energy making it out here. Other than that - clean mall that isn’t very busy so you have lots of room to shop freely
  • North Grand mall the last decade has steadily declined in popularity as many stores closed shop and the movie theater closed down. They recently changed management and since then the mall is growing at a great rate. Awesome new stores like the Games, Gifts, Gallery which is my new favorite game store. Also the farmers market, which give the mall a hometown feel compared to the larger, brand name hogged storefronts. They also reinvented the movie theater to being the best one in town. Great prices and comfy power reclined seats bring this nearly closed mall into the type of mall that is fun for all ages. I love coming here with my family and buying from a variety of shops that are within the mall.
