At National Railway Museum, learn about the history of trains and their effect on British society. This engaging museum, which won the European Museum of the Year Award in 2001, houses 100 locomotives and almost 200 items of rolling stock that either ran on British rails or that British manufacturers produced. Wander through the massive halls and board all types of trains, from the opulent Royal Train to a futuristic Japanese bullet train. Observe engineers working at their craft in the workshop and take a ride on the miniature railway outside. Guides are available to give children a fun education on Britain's rail history. • Free museum. Amazing place. Definitely would recommend. This museum is wonderful and extraordinary especially for train enthusiasts. It is good value for money and has lots to see. Gives you easy to digest information on the history of the train carriages and journeys. There is also a road going mini train tour around York, that starts from the museum. That's also worth looking into. It's under £10 I believe for one adult but please check the official website for accurate information. Science, engineering and history of trains is implemented throughout the building. It's also great for kids. One of the best places in Bern. Would definitely go again.
  • Brilliant place for kids of all ages and of course dads. Well laid out with a number of great exhibits along with description boards. Very clean and also wheelchair friendly. Food and beverages can also be purchased though I found the pricing a little high if you have a few children as well as yourself. Overall a good experience and worth a visit. Best of all it is free!!!
