Monkey World, Wareham

4.4
#1 of 50 in Wildlife in Dorset
Must see · Wildlife Area · Nature / Park
A sprawling, 26.3 hectares (65 acres) complex, Monkey World serves both as a tourist attraction and as a refuge for mistreated primates brought to the center from all over the world. The sanctuary originally opened in 1987 to create a home for chimpanzees, but later expanded its operations to its current scale. In 2008, the operation pulled off one of the world’s biggest rescue missions by providing refuge for 88 Chilean capuchin monkeys. Make your way around the various exhibits to view 13 different primate species. Learn more about a particular species by sitting in for one of the refuge's daily talks--check the website for a schedule. If you have at least five people in your group, you can arrange a guided tour, which lasts approximately 75 minutes. Plan my Wareham trip by asking Inpirock to come up with tips and suggestions.
