Tintagel Castle, Tintagel

#1 of 19 in Things to do in Tintagel
The legendary birthplace of King Arthur, Tintagel Castle rests on a peninsula with a lookout over the Atlantic Ocean. Legend has it that Arthur was conceived here, after Merlin cast a spell to make King Uther look like Arthur's mother's husband Gorlois for one night. A stone with a Latin inscription thought to be Arthur's name found at the site is thought to give the legend some credence. All that is left of the castle are ruins of its walls, but these are enough to create a magical setting for sea views. Take the rugged coastal walk to see the castle and surrounding hills. Sample locally sourced crab-cake sandwiches and fresh fish and chips at the cafe. For Tintagel Castle and beyond, use our Tintagel online trip planner to get the most from your Tintagel vacation.

  • A good day spoilt by the parking ticket received. The village uses parking eye so don't overstay any parking.  more »
  • Romantic Cornwall, the birthplace of legends about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Once here "fail" at once, at least for a century in the past. Next to the castle is a pathetic hotel "Camelot" stylized as a castle. By the way, they found there in the lobby among the photos of famous visitors of the young Kirkorov! ))

  • Beautiful, rugged location, suitable for the legends of King Arthur, Guinevere and Merlin. North Cornwall at its dramatic best. Nearby Camelot Castle Hotel ideal for views of the castle, free parking and relaxing opulent atmosphere.
  • It was wild and windy weather, but lovely walk down to the cove and then along the coast path towards Trebarwith. Fairly challenging terrain, and quite steep in places. But wonderful views of castle and coastline. Although out of season, which I prefer, many of the shops were open including cafes etc.
