Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon

As the final resting place of Shakespeare, Holy Trinity Church stands as one of England's most-visited parish churches. Head out to the 15th-century chancel (space around the altar in the east end of a church) to see his grave and the funerary monument on the wall beside it. The church holds other significant attractions. In the nave of the church, look for the large medieval stained-glass windows and three-manual-pipe organ, which dates to 1841. Check out the Clopton Chapel, which holds the altar-tomb of 15th-century mayor Hugh Clopton. He led Stratford-Upon-Avon's early development but is actually buried in London. From the outside, you can simply admire the church. Except for the addition of a wooden spire in 1675, it's changed little since Shakespeare worshipped here. The church still holds services today; introduce yourself to the Welcome Team for guidance if you plan to attend one. • Good to see, great welcome. For Shakespeare's grave you need to pay an entry fee to the quire and altar area of the church. Very usefully you can pay by card at the church shop so being cashless isn't a barrier! Brilliant 😃
  • What an amazing and beautiful church. Set along the lock it's outside is as beautiful as the inside. To see the grave of Shakespeare was humbling. The stain glass windows added a reverence to the place. It was also funny to look at the pews which had carvings of what seem to be theatre motifs.
