Southwold Pier offers a nostalgic way to experience the seaside. Pleasure piers, which feature attractions for visitors, had their heyday in the 19th and early 20th centuries, but this one in Southwold still bustles and offers plenty of fun. It extends 190 m (623 ft) out into the sea and holds restaurants, shops, and games. Dine on fresh seafood such as local mussels, browse ceramics and textiles, and head into the amusement arcade for air hockey, bowling, and stomping spiders. Check out the hand-built machines in the under-the-pier show; they offer offbeat entertainment such as "whacking a banker." A shop on the pier sells everything you need for an afternoon of relaxing on the beach. Make Southwold Pier a part of your Southwold vacation plans using our Southwold travel planner.

  • This quintessential seaside pier gives a wonderful view of the beaches of Southwold. There are a few shops and a lovely cafe on the promenade and a rather weird clock.  more »
  • This is just an ordinary pier with the usual slot machine arcades etc. Only good thing is the views from there of the beach and the coloured beach huts. Makes for a nice little extra walk though!  more »

  • You can get an excellent coffee on the pier apart from other beverages and food. Lovely little traditional shops that aren't too expensive with a variety of goods. Old gaming machines, funny mirrors and the most wonderful water clock. It's like going back in time. That's the charm for me. One of my favourite places.
  • What a lovely and picturesque place! The pier is well looked after, full of little surprises. There's a really unusual amusement arcade halfway down - certainly worth the visit! The beaches are lovely and the sand fine. A perfect little spot for the whole family. Be warned though, high tide brings the sea to the top of the beach - it chased us off, but the children loved it! Perfectly pleasant.
