Trip Planner: Europe / UK / England / Yorkshire / North Yorkshire / Scarborough District / Scarborough / Scarborough Castle
Once acting as a Roman signal station, Scarborough Castle endured attacks by the Scottish and numerous continental forces. What remains today are the foundations of the medieval fortress as well as buildings added to the site until the 16th century. Make the visitor's center your first stop to purchase a ticket to the ruins site and view a display of artifacts found on the grounds. The attraction's website announces seasonal events that take place at the castle. Peruse the calendar prior to your arrival so you don't miss out on a reenacted pirate attack or the castle ghost stories. Scarborough Castle Reviews
Fairly priced . Lovely views of surrounding coast line. Castle itself was pretty standard . Beautiful on a sunny day but windy so wear sensible clothes more »
Impressive ruin of the ancient Scarborough Castle. Fantastic view from the top. Steeped in history. Worth the walk up the steep hill to get to it. more »
A nice little castle, not much really here apart from the ruins but has a nice little walk you can go on around the cliff's edge and back towards the cafe. Great views from the top of the castle wall over Scarborough beach! Even on a wet and miserable day it is a very pleasant place to visit and not too far from the town centre. Cafe staff were kind and helpful and cakes and drinks were very tasty!
It's just beautiful ... the walk around it is fun if you go up hill from the Royal Albert park from the promenade. The views are spectacular when you have a good weather day ... then stroll into Old Town and get on a speed boat ride and cross over the road for the best fish 'n' chips what's not to like !
