  • This museum provided an excellent presentation on theD- Day landings. It covered both the lead up to the landings and how they developed during the day and the next two months. The video presentations...  more »
  • The exhibition of objects and devices used for the landing. According to the models, it is a little easier to imagine what units were needed and how they looked, but I missed the dioramas presenting the landing. A pretty small museum can be reached in about half an hour. For this reason, I would have deserved the D-day think.

  • Well worth a visit to refresh your memory on how important this operation was and how courageous the men who took part were. My only mild criticism is that it would have been useful to have a summary board right at the start to show dates, objectives and subsequent developments after D-Day. Unfortunately, the site is badly located - about a mile walk along an exposed coast road from the Hovercraft terminal and no transport except Sundays (visited in February, so worth checking if this changes in summer). I can't understand why one of the (several) buses down that way can't divert down that road. Not everyone has a car.
  • The museum has been refurbished recently. It's a superb experience. The tapestry is monumental and a fantastic celebration of D-Day. The audio and visual components are wonderfully done. The cafe and gift shop is a welcome addition. This is a must if you are in the Portsmouth area. You can visit and pop along to The Rock Garden, walk on the breach, see the castle all on the same afternoon.
