The Barbican, Plymouth

4.5
#2 of 318 in Things to do in Plymouth
Neighborhood · Other
One of the few places in the city still intact after the Blitz in World War II, The Barbican retains it original architecture. Along the promenade, you'll find the National Marine Aquarium with the deepest tanks in Europe, the 16th-century Elizabethan House, and the Mayflower Steps, where the Pilgrims set sail in 1620. The area has inspired many artists, including Robert Lenkiewicz, who lived and worked in the community for most of his life. Make your first stop the visitor's center, where you can pick up information on all these sites and other gems hidden among the many shops, restaurants, and bars.
