Pembroke Castle, Pembroke

Must see · Castle · Historic Site
Learn about the rich, bloody, and important history of this ancient castle, originating from 1093. Explore inside Pembroke Castle and have the scenes from its past brought to life by the castle’s exhibitions. Sculpted figures, sets, lighting, and a triggered audio sequence recreate scenes of interest, including a medieval banquet, the birth of King Henry VII, and a bloody Civil War battle between Cromwell’s troops and Royalists. Explore the labyrinth of passageways and towers, and take in the views from the 23 m (75 F28ft) Great Keep. Peer down into the medieval basement dungeon and spot the Pembroke “prisoner.” Enrich your understanding with a guided tour, available for a small fee. These need to be pre-arranged in low season, but they leave at scheduled times the rest of the year. Buy your tickets to Pembroke Castle in advance from their website to avoid queuing on the day. • Lovely area. Huge castle ruins, a lot of which can be climbed and explored by the nimble! Interactive displays. Will be revisiting to see the bits we missed first time around.
  • An interesting castle ruin with lots of information about it's history and some very steep stairwells to add some fear, the views are fantastic so not for the light hearted. Lovely little cafe and very clean toilets. Parking is off site so a little walk up the hill.
