Pentre Ifan (literally "John's Village") is the name of an ancient manor in the community and parish of Nevern, Pembrokeshire, Wales. It is 11 miles (18 km) from Cardigan, Ceredigion, and 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Newport, Pembrokeshire. Pentre Ifan contains and gives its name to the largest and best preserved neolithic dolmen in Wales.

The Pentre Ifan monument is a scheduled monument and is one of three Welsh monuments to have received legal protection under the Ancient Monuments Protection Act 1882. The dolmen is maintained and cared for by Cadw, the Welsh Historic Monuments Agency.

Lovely find whist on a stay in Pembrokeshire. Amazing to know this burial site is over 5500 years old and has so much history about it. The large stoned feature looked impressive in the distance as..... more »

we have passed the sign to Pentre Ifan on the main road several times but have now with no rush taken the time to visit this chamber. the site is looked after by Cadw and although there is one important signpost missing we did find it and I must remark on the fantastic view from there, I would recommend anyone coming there to bring binoculars to scan around. As for the stone structure it's amazing how a 16 ton stone balances just on 3 points and how long it has been there, what a peaceful well maintained site.

Very interesting, and impressive. I was inspired to read more into this afterwards and it only made me more impressed with what they did! I recommend anyone with more than 1% interest in local history to venture up and take it in.
