Cawdor Castle is perhaps best known for its literary connection to William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, in which the title character is made "Thane of Cawdor." However, the 600-year-old castle, still home to the Cawdor family, was built many years after the life of the 11th-century King Macbeth. Visit the walled garden, flower garden, wild garden, and the woods featuring numerous species of trees and 100 species of lichen. Enjoy the nature trails, golf course, putting green, duck pond, and picnic area. Don’t miss the ancient medieval tower, built around the legendary holly tree. Admire the furniture, portraits, other artwork, and tapestries. Grab a bite at the Courtyard Cafe or the snack bar and stop in at the gift shop, Highland Shop, or Wool Shop. Parking is available. Cawdor Castle Reviews
Довольно интересный замок. Все там пропитано средневековьем.Но сам замок находится в приличном состоянии.Стоит посмотреть залы,где выставлена подлинная мебель. The garden at the castle is amazing. The castle has a shop where you can buy souvenirs. Recommend.
This friendly castle does not call Macbeth to mind at all. It is pleasant with beautiful and well-maintained gardens. The saga of the current inhabitants seems to be the main current interest. Worth a... more »
The castle is well maintained and each room has a printed explanation of significance and artifacts within. The gardens are worth a visit more so than the castle interior of you had to choose only one. That being said, the castle is very cool. Especially the tree still preserved in dungeon. Great story there. Check it out!
Always a sheer pleasure to visit this beautiful fairytale Castle and stunning grounds. Great for families and for those who like walking. There are walks and educational points regarding the various old trees on the walks. And even a maze. Food is tasty there and the historical audio guide through the rooms is very intriguing. A great place.
