  • This house is charming and enables you to see it as it was, which is delightful. A real home that has been cared for and preserved. It is not all shiny but someone's home that we can now see.  more »
  • Visited last week. The National Trust have bought this house and left it as it was. Interesting and quite a history to it. You do see around most of the house and it’s 3 storeys, although it does look...  more »

  • Fantastic national trust house really beautiful exterior and fantastic volunteers and staff guiding you around the property! Fascinating history so interesting to hear the connection with the Catholics and gunpowder plot! Really enjoyed my day out!
  • Visited in early June as one of the last stops on my Cotswolds holiday. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday and open only in the afternoon in other days. To find the car park was not easy, as it is going around in the estate in a narrow road uphill, and the car park itself is not too big and not too well cared. Then we have a nice long walk to the house through a meadow, be prepared with tall boots on or after rainy days... Next to the house there is a small graveyard with a church which was then the tea-room... That was quite odd for me to see tables and chairs next to the graves visitors drinking their beverages. It is rather a bit morbid in the Christian culture. The house is not too big, a short hour or so is enough to walk around, old enough with its own history and there are some arts and some antique stuffs. The long gallery upstairs is interesting, with a nice view to the surrounding area, however its function is rather unknown for me. I did not find flowers around or walled garden, but the garden itself around the house is nice, well maintained with a few benches. Also toilets are available on site, but I did not find a shop, only the reception area/ticket kiosk has a few postcard and 1-2 little stuffs. For me 2 hours was enough to look around in the house and estate and I could not spend more time there. But for an afternoon pop-in it is a quite, peaceful place to have some rest.
