Britain’s first operational military airfield was set up in Montrose by the Royal Flying Corps in 1913. The heritage centre's collection of photographs and artefacts tell the story of RFC/RAF Montrose through the words and deeds of the men and women who served here through two world wars, bringing the airfield alive and sparking the enthusiasm and admiration of generations for whom the First and Second Wars exists only in others’ memories.

  • This is a small museum dedicated to the Montrose Air Station, those who served there, those who were trained there and who went on to fight in the two world wars. There are also some quite moving displays which illustrate the service these men gave to their country and the sacrifices made by many in that service. There are some nice set piece displays such as the 40's house and the main hut which shows the history of the air station. This small museum is well worth a visit, there is ample parking and the cost of entry is reasonable, it is run by enthusiasts who deserve support to keep this type of local history alive.
  • Smashing place. The staff were all very knowledgeable and grateful for a visit. My wife and I took our almost 4 year old... He got to put on little outfits, sit in a plane and play with lots of cool things. We will definitely be back. Thanks for keeping this little window into the history of Montrose and it's people open.
