High Force Waterfall, Middleton in Teesdale

#1 of 7 in Nature in County Durham
A majestic waterfall, High Force Waterfall cascades over the River Tees. An impressive sight, the falls drop for 21.5 m (71 ft). A gently-sloping gravel path, the falls are only a short walk from a bus stop, car park, and picnic area. For a longer walk (about 2 hours), begin your journey from the south of the river at Holwick. Stop to view the Low Force Falls, and follow the river until you reach the larger waterfall. After visiting the falls, enjoy a drink and meal at the pub located next to the car park. Be sure to bring your camera for stunning photographs. • We love a good waterfall, and this one is one of the best. Well worth the £3 per person to have a look at. And if you fancy a little trek downstream, you can take a gander at Low Force for free, too. ...  more »
  • What a waterfall!!!! Pictures don't do it justice online, it's massive. There were alot of people there but suppose on a hots summer day it's to be expected. Unfortunately had to pay for the parking w...  more »
  • Great waterfall it is but be very, very careful about parking there. Minimum charge is £3 for 3 hours. They counting time from when you entered parking (some limited time to buy ticket given) to leaving it by cameras and even a minute late you will be charged £100. My advice to park along the road near to the Low Force Waterfalls or anywhere else and then walk to the High Force. Easy and hassle free walk instead of stress because you could be late.
  • Paid for the public car park but later found we could have redeemed this against the entry to the waterfall. The path to High Force is well maintained and an easy walk and the waterfall itself totally stunning (a dramatic plunge so unlike Aysgarth's more gentle incline). Would imagine it could become very crowded in high season but on a weekday in May we had it almost to ourselves. Whilst there don't miss the 'human sundial' in the car park. Really fascinating for both adults and children!
