My 7 year olds got really into the quiz/activity thing and we spent longer here than I expected. Nicely laid out with some interesting exhibits and interactive and multimedia sections. Do this and the aquarium in Maryport in the same visit.

Lovely small museum that has an interesting selection of Roman altars. Small enough to not feel overwhelmed by the exhibits but big enough to keep you occupied for a few hours. No cafe but coffee machine available and a cosy area to drink in with a huge number of books on Roman history.
