Must see · Scenic Walking Area · Tourist Spot
Malham Cove are a huge amphitheater-shaped cliff formation and a deep gorge, produced by water from melting glaciers over a period of 3 million years. Explore the western side of the cove’s 80 m (260 ft) cliff face, which features about 400 irregular stone steps forming part of the route of the Pennine Way, one of the country's longest and best-known walking trails. Widely regarded as one of Yorkshire’s most impressive natural wonders, the gorge contains two waterfalls and a series of overhanging limestone cliffs over 100 m (328 ft) high. When visiting this rugged area, remember to wear appropriate hiking footwear, wear layers of warm clothing, and bring plenty of food and water. • It was an amazing day out with my friends. Even though the weather turned on us at times I still thoroughly enjoyed my day. Definitely recommend if you are in the area, as you can spend a full day there.
  • Imposing, limestone wall. We were lucky, the sun was shining, lighting up the wall of limestone and Malham Beck, the stream running out from under the cove. Climb the footpath to the top and not only do you have a wonderful view of the dales, there is the rutted, patterned surface of the limestone pavement.
