  • Our son has been learning about pirates at school (KS1) and we thought we’d take him here as a treat. The staff were friendly and helpful and after being onboard for about 10 minutes, we had a great s...  more »
  • You probably need to know the story and have a relationship with the ship before you get on to really take part of the whole thing in the right way and understand. It is a replica and it has sailed around the world with 20 people, 60-century on the original that sailed in the 1500. If you have it in the back of your head you get a completely different understanding of the ship and the experience gets bigger (how the phase got 60 pers place, and yes, 20 also for that matter-crowded and everything for several months). So read on a little before, give more experience-or take a guide. That's a tip. But the guides-the staff were really amazing, busade a bit with my kid at 5 years (pretended he was the Captain O.S. v). So was a nice highlight:)

  • If you are into history then this one is must. Board the replica vessel and understand the voyage as it travelled round the world replicating Sir Francis Drakes journey. We had a very informative guide around the boat who gave us a very in depth idea as to how the boat and men on it lived and survived whilst out at seas. Amazing facts like they could sail for 118 days before docking at land to refill foods. I attended the boat with a group of school children aged 9-10, and I've also told my 7 year old about the boat and now she wants to go. I would go back again.
  • Complete period appropriate replica of Drake's Ship Currently in drydock and undergoing some repairs. Fully seaworthy and was used to recreate his journeys in the modern era. Low price of entry (entirely devoted to funding maintenance and construction) and very knowledgeable and engaging staff. The ship is small, but visitors are given free range to explore with only some small areas (either under repair or storage) off limits. If you have any interest in the history of the age of sail, this is highly recommended.
