Royal Observatory Greenwich, London

4.1
#3 of 17 in Childrens Museums in London
At Royal Observatory Greenwich, see where the world established 0 degrees longitude. More than just the home of the prime meridian, the observatory serves as a museum containing artifacts from its time as a center for the study of navigation. Keep an eye out for the world's first marine chronometers and the UK's largest refracting telescope, which was made in 1893. The observatory also puts on art exhibits with maritime and astronomy themes, and hosts a 120-seat planetarium. Make sure you bring your camera, as you'll have views of London's Canary Wharf from here. • Great place for pictures. I found the meridian line interesting and a bit hilarious (a monument to the colossal British Empire era ego that all of Earth's time should be based on this place near London). Surrounding grounds are lovely. Bit of a climb to get up to observatory. A good combo of the historic and modern.
  • Such an interesting and enlightening place to visit. We only expected to stay around an hour or so however we were still looking around 3 hours later. On top of this, the views over London from the top of the Observatory and simply spectacular! I would definitely recommend staying a few hours here as there is so much to learn about.
