4.2
#24 of 257 in Museums in London
An independent academy run by artists and architects, Royal Academy of Arts is one of the world's foremost art schools. It is also one of the oldest art schools in Britain and houses a collection of important books, archives, and works of art. Many of these are archived online for free viewing. The most prized piece in the collection is Michelangelo's Taddei Tondo, which is on display in the Sackler Wing on the gallery level. This gallery, as well as other portions of the academy, are open to the public. In fact, the academy gallery spans two city blocks and, as of 2015, the Piccadilly and Burlington Gardens locations will be joined. Review ticketing options and book tickets online, where you'll see discounts and get updates on the latest exhibitions. • You either love it or hate it, but the Summer Exhibition is always worth a visit as a mind-blowing review of British contemporary art and architecture minus the big-hitters like David Hockney and plus...  more »
  • Dreadful shades of grey. Not at all uplifting. Glad we chose to buy a gin and go round with it. Needed it to lift the gloom. Last year went back three times won’t be revisiting this year. Not a vintag...  more »

  • Visited here were a great my royal institutes are based. All except for the Royal Academy of Arts was open and they some some very fine sculptures and paintings on display. Many of the exhibits are copies, as an aid for teaching and I especially enjoyed the copy of "The Last Supper". There's always exhibitions going on that require a fee, but there's plenty to art to see if you're looking for a budget friendly way to spend time here. The building is also very fine, worthy of all the royal institutes housed here.
  • The Royal Academy of the Arts is a "must visit" place to see when you are in London. The whole building has been refurbished and a magnificent job has been completed with great art to see, food, coffee shop and much more. Just been to see Bill Viola, Michelangelo and this was a really good exhibition. Very creative and inspiring and in the main gallery. Whatever your opinions may be on Art there is always something to challenge the mind and think about. So very highly recommended and worth a visit.
