The birthplace of many of the Tudor dynasty's most famous family members, including Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, Greenwich is also known for its maritime history. A preserved clipper ship called the Cutty Sark sits in a dry dock by the river. The National Maritime Museum forms an arcade around the Queen's house not far from the Royal Palace of Placentia. Georgian and Victorian architecture fills the town center, where a covered market draws shoppers throughout the year. Make your first stop the Greenwich visitor center. The helpful staff will provide you with suggestions, brochures, and a comprehensive history of the royal borough. To visit Greenwich on your trip to London, use our London road trip planning site.
