The City of London Police Museum will take visitors on a unique journey, which includes the last hours of Catherine Eddowes, one of Jack the Ripper’s victims; bomb damage during the Blitz; being at the forefront of technology to counter terrorism and the current work against economic crime and cybercrime .

The City of London Police has been responsible for policing the Square Mile since 1839. Over the course of more than 175 years, the force’s priorities have remained the same: keep the City safe. It is also the UK’s leading police force for fraud and economic crime.

The purpose-built museum is a collaboration between the City of London Police and the City of London Corporation’s Guildhall Library, which is situated next to the new museum at Guildhall, the City’s historic headquarters. The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) awarded a grant of c.£90,000 towards the development of the museum and associated community engagement. Admission to the museum is free and over 2016 and 2017 there will be a variety of special events, talks and walks, as well as a range of merchandise available.

  • It's just info on boards in a small room. You'd actually be better to look at it online. It's also a bit of a trek to find it.  more »
  • We enjoyed our hour spent at this little museum. Free entry and lots of interesting info about the City of London police's history and crimes they've dealt with. Enter via the Guildhall building.  more »

  • City of London Police Museum is a museum dedicated to the Police force in London. The museum shares the same building has that of the Guildhall Library. The museum charts the history of the London police from it;s very beginning as an ad-hoc group of glorified night watchmen to the professional force it is today. Some of the best known events associated with the force such as Jack the Ripper murders, terrorist bombings and riots are well-documented. There's also a good amount of information about different divisions of the modern police force such as dog handlers, mounted police, forensics etc. There's a lot of written information, but for those who prefer to listen, there's free audio guides with commentary from current and former police officers. Nice to hear from first hand experience and a nice change from standard narrators. The museum is nice and compact and it should be possible to get through it in under an hour. If visiting, do check the opening times. It's open every weekday, but not open every weekend.
  • Although smallish I rather enjoyed this small museum located within the Guildhall building complex. The museum shows a brief history of the City of London police and presents several artifacts, objects. Worth a visit if in the area.
