Buckingham Palace serves as a splendid reminder of the monarch's continued importance in British culture. If you visit during August or September, you'll have the opportunity to tour the palace's opulent staterooms. The queen receives and entertains guests and conducts special ceremonies in these spaces. Many of the furnishings date back to the 1830s, when King George IV transformed Buckingham House into a palace. On your tour, you'll learn how the monarch uses each of the 19 staterooms, hear colorful history relating to these spaces, and see numerous works in the British royals' art collection. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, because the tour lasts from 2-2.5 hours and stretches out over 0.8 km (0.5 miles). Photography is not permitted inside. If you visit outside of August and September, you can still watch the changing of the guard outside the palace. The Tour smashed the Versailles tour to bits and pieces. So much more organized and easy to navigate. The audio was interesting and informative. They gave you sneak peeks into the Royal life and the lives and personalities of the monarchs. It is so beautiful and elegantly decorated. It is elaborate and filled with splendor but it is also very formal and demanding of respect. They give you a tour of 15 rooms as well! Very worth it. I loved Buckingham. Will come again.
Iconic London landmark, official residence of the British Monarchs. We visited the State Rooms with a multimedia guide which is available in 9 languages. During the visit you can see the rooms that are used for ceremonial occasions and official entertainment, really splendid rooms which are furnished with treasures of the royal collection. At the end there is a short walk through the gardens to the exit. It is a family-friendly visit. Photographs are not allowed inside the palace.
