Lotherton, Leeds

#5 of 27 in Historic Sites in Leeds
Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Explore the expansive estate and gardens of Lotherton for a snapshot of aristocratic England. Inside the manor, wander each room of the house, and read about how life during the 1800s would have been for a wealthy family and its servants. Play croquet in the estate gardens and visit the bird sanctuary's extensive range of endangered species. While you enjoy a picnic, watch the red deer and llamas of the estate play in the meadows. • The house was closed due to coronavirus restrictions but the bird gardens were fantastic. All the animals were playing or resting and seemed very healthy and happy. It was very enjoyable to walk...  more »
  • Loved Lotherton this afternoon. Wildlife World was fun especially the emus who were having a shower and the penguins, of course! It's nice to have more space to walk around. We just had an ice cream....  more »
  • A lot of improvements have been made at the wildlife area, and more still happening. Good access for wheelchair and visibility for younger children. Would visit again as did not get opportunity to see house. The fact that there are no concessions for carers, meaning that a disabled person has to pay £16 - have previously taken people with learning disabilities and wheelchair users, would prevent some of them from being able to visit.
  • A great day out with a range of activities to entertain the kids: deer park, hay maze, adventure playground, Wildlife World. We did not even enter the house or gardens but we were there for hours. Although smaller than a full-on zoo, Wildlife World had a nice variety of animals and the enclosures were modern and well maintained. The adventure playground was showing signs of wear after a long summer (we visited in late August) and it was disappointing that so much equipment was out of action. Other than that, we were really pleased with our day out and would visit again if we were in the area.
