Honister Slate Mine, Keswick

Known as the producer of the famous Westmorland green slate, Honister Slate Mine opened to the public in 1997 while its mining operations continued. One of the mine's main attractions is the via ferrata, a series of steel cables affixed to the mountainside. Climb the rock face while you are attached to these sturdy cables or take a guided tour of the historic mines and modern operating counterparts.
