The Scottish Crannog Centre is a reconstruction of an early Iron Age loch-dwelling. You will learn all about crannogs, a type of ancient homestead found throughout Scotland and Ireland dating from 2,500 years ago. These structures were built out in the water as defensive homesteads and represented symbols of power and wealth. This authentic re-creation is based on excavation evidence. Your visit includes a self-guided exhibition, a guided crannog tour, and ancient crafts and technology demonstrations. A gift shop offers books, crafts, and other souvenirs.
