  • Visited with my 87 year old Mum who got around OK as the ground was dry underfoot. Saw several using a wheelchair but you need a good day for anyone with mobility problems. Wellington's for everyone if it is wet. We did not feel impressed by staff. Not as friendly as experienced elsewhere. My feelings about the visit are mixed. We saw many empty enclosures making us wonder if the animals really existed. We hoped for red squirrels_ otters and badgers but did not see any. The single pole at was running around it's cage, obviously desperate to escape. However as cages go it was reasonable for the size of animal. Nice to see Soay sheep. However the highlight of the day was the brown bears. These are rescue bears so have a better life than before. Distance and close netting makes seeing many animals hard. I did get up on a walkway to take pictures of a fox. Was also interested to see the Scottish wildcat. There were some parts, such as the rats and insects we did not see by choice. We saw various birds but missed the owls and all the talks. I think if coming again I would arrive early and leave late as you would need to be patient to see all animals and cannot expect a nocturnal one to oblige midday! The children seemed to enjoy the playground and some would love the rope bridge over the bears. The key is to understand this is not a zoo. Prepare children saying we "might" not we will see animals. We did not visit the cafe and my short peek into the shop did not make me want to explore.
  • Our second visit, much improved since we first visited, with more animals to see including bears, wolves, wildcats, otters, elk and horses. Good elevated walkways over the bear enclosure and the red squirrel enclosure. Reasonably-priced food and a great play area with a drop slide and corkscrew slides, secret spaces, rope walk and wooden fort.
