The Friends of Shibden Park and Estate are a voluntary group aiming to help maintain Shibden Estate as an attractive and enjoyable place for all age groups. Their ambition is to help enhance all aspects of the Estate, working along with other groups and Shibden’s management and staff.

We hope to share up and coming events and promote our beautiful park. Many events are organised by the Friends of Shibden and we would love it if you would share these things with your friends!!!

Shibden Estate is one of West Yorkshire's most important heritage sites and a jewel in the crown of Calderdale's cultural resources.

Explore Shibden's beautifully restored grounds, commissioned by Anne Lister and influenced by the picturesque landscape movement of the early 19th century. The "Paisley Shawl" inspired Victorian bedding designs of Joshua Major, laid out on the front lawn at the hall, are a feast of colour as the spring and summer bedding erupts.

Experience the tranquillity of the Wilderness Garden, the cascade and pools, and explore the restored and re-opened tunnels within the terrace walls and leading through to Cunnery Wood, the site of the old kitchen garden.

Visit the fruit garden with its collection of heritage fruit trees, recently planted to reflect the varieties that were grown at Shibden over 200 years ago.

The Mere, designed to resemble a large river flowing through the Shibden valley, is now is home to rowing boats, an island and a population of birds that make their home at Shibden.

  • We had a lovely day out here today. Playground, miniature railway, boating lake, modern cafe. But down in the park, the very busy park, there was just one male toilet, one female and one locked...  more »
  • A real gem. We took a wheelchair user and the staff and arrangements were outstanding. Lovely gardens and a truly fascinating house. They are to congratulated for not going wildly over the top after the BBC Gentleman Jack series. It features but it's subtle and informative rather than a theme park approach. Didn't get to the café. A great way to pass a couple of hours Very handy disabled parking. Recommended.
  • Great spot with woodland, decent kids play area and a very small boating lake. Plenty of parking available at the normal car park, overflow and small upper car park. Please be aware that there's a LOT of traffic to Shibden Park on warm days.
