Witley Court & Gardens, Great Witley

#1 of 7 in Historic Sites in Malvern Hills
A massive fire in 1937 destroyed Witley Court & Gardens, once one of the largest houses of England. The interior of the house was completely ruined, leaving only a shell of the palatial structure. To contrast the ruins of the mansion, take a walk through the well-maintained gardens. Pause to admire the fountains that still work like they did in the 1800s, and use the audio guide. Visit the small, attached church where Handel once played to see some baroque frescoes. For a break, play in the treehouse and run across the rope bridge at the Wilderness Play Area. • If you are into history or just want a place to explore this is ideal. There is something for everyone. Woodland walk, lake, great fountain display, play area for the kids, beautiful gardens, gift shop and tea rooms. Take a picnic sit in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy. Well with a visit
  • This is one of my very favourite places. Beautifully cared for by English Heritage, it's calm and peaceful - even when lots of people are there - with masses of places for quiet contemplation to watch the spectacular fountain or look at the glorious gardens. Add in an astonishing church and a pleasant tea room - and what more could anyone want..?
