Trip Planner: Europe / UK / Scotland / Scottish Highlands / Caithness and Sutherland / Golspie / Dunrobin Castle and Gardens
With 189 rooms, Dunrobin Castle and Gardens is the biggest estate in the north of Scotland. Long the official home of the dukes of Sutherland, this imposing castle is often described as "the jewel in the crown of the Highlands." Though the site has its origins in the Middle Ages, most of the present buildings and gardens were added in the 19th century, with elements modeled on the work of French architect Viollet-le-Duc. The French influence extends into the gardens, which were inspired by the famous gardens at Versailles. The castle houses a museum of animal trophy heads, shot by the Sutherland family on various safaris, along with an important collection of archaeological artifacts. Stop by for the falconry display, held daily in the manicured gardens. Put Dunrobin Castle and Gardens into our Golspie trip tool and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
Dunrobin Castle and Gardens Reviews
An der Kasse, im Eingangangsbereich, wird man standesgemäss im Kilt empfangen. Ein grosser Teil des Schlosses ist für die Öffentlichkeit begehbar. Sehr gepflegter Garten. more »At the checkout, in the entrance area, one is received according to the stand in the kilt. A large part of the castle is accessible to the public. Very well maintained garden.
Das Castle ist wirklich wunderschön. Ob von Aussen oder Innen. Es empfhielt sich wirklich eine Tour durch das Schloss zu buchen. Man erhält einen schönen Rückblick wie man dazumal gelebt hat. You get a nice retrospective of how you lived at that time. Also the garden is beautiful, although at this time almost no colored flowers, but nevertheless a beautiful garden and above all a beautiful view of the castle.
Excellent Victorian building with brilliant views, lovely gardens and well furnished rooms. Coffee shop is a cold and rather unwelcoming room, indifferent food, indifferent service. Given the number of coaches bringing in loads of tourists, more attention and care should be given to toilet facilities, which at present are inadequate. Reception staff would benefit greatly from good advice on how to greet visitors with a charming smile and friendliness.
Was a fantastic experience you get so much or your one off payment, my husband enjoyed the birds twice, and I enjoyed the castle, and we both enjoyed the gift shop and cafe, would recommend a day at the castle to everyone
