Gloucester Cathedral, Gloucester

4.8
Church · Religious Site
A filming location for three Harry Potter films, Gloucester Cathedral is also one of England's most attractive cathedrals. Its foundation dates back to the establishment of an abbey here in the seventh century. Today you'll find a fine example of Gothic architecture. Take a guided tour to learn about the cathedral's intricate details, such as the Norman roof from the Early English period and the medieval glass in the east window. For views over the whole complex and out into Gloucester, walk the 269 steps to the top of the tower. The cathedral's renowned choir performs regularly, so check its schedule to hear a concert. You can also attend a religious service here. Add Gloucester Cathedral to your Gloucester travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our Gloucester trip itinerary website.

  • Such a beautiful cathedral! The outdoor space has been improved recently and it's absolutely stunning! The building itself is wonderful - so many interesting things to see. There's often an exhibition going on too, which is great. There's also the drawer of Harry Potter - walking the same ancient cloisters is very exciting for young and old fans. Must visit!!
  • Went to visit my brother who lives in Gloucester and he took us here to show us around. I was very impressed as I didn't think it would be as huge as it is compared to other, City Cathedrals. Recommended donation is £5. Can easily spend 2-3 hours in here admiring the architecture and grounds. Lovely hidden garden to have a picnic to. Harry Potter exhibition well worth a visit too if your a fan as part of the movies were filmed here. *****
