Chalice Well, Glastonbury

4.6
#2 of 8 in Historic Sites in Glastonbury
An active well for over 2000 years, Chalice Well embodies the peace and solace of its unique location in the Vale of Avalon. The well and its surrounding meditation garden offer visitors a chance to reflect and drink in (literally) the area's fabled history. The well cover, designed by church architect and archaeologist Frederick Bligh Bond, represents the overlap between inner and outer worlds and symbolizes the atmosphere here. Quiet your thoughts in one of the sitting areas or take a relaxed stroll through the grounds. Don't forget to bring a bottle so you can sample the waters from this famous source. On summer evenings, enjoy poetry, music, and other performances in the candlelit gardens. If you're interested in delving further, look at the schedule of workshops and retreats. • The Chalice Well is a lovely area of set piece picturesque gardens highlighting the waters of the Red Spring that rises beneath the Tor. It is a great place to sit , unwind and feel your troubles melt away. You can drink the water at the Lions Head, bathe in a special pool (designed for paddling) or just admire the wonderful landscaping at the ornamental pools at the foot of the gardens. The Gardens have a gift shop and toilets together with disabled parking. Not all parts of the garden seem to be accessible to wheelchair users.
  • Beautiful place! Stunning and peaceful! Has a very blissful, loving energy, spent a lot of time just soaking it up! Would definitely return! Very magical ✨ Very much enjoyed the chalice spring water too! Very special!
