Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum Reviews
My friends and I only had about a day in a half in Glasgow, and this museum was absolutely worth the time. The architecture of the building (both inside and out!) itself makes it a worthwhile spot, an... more »
Visited with wife and 2 visitors from England and had a great time viewing all the various exhibits but highlight was the organist playing this is between 1 and 1.30 every day. We also used the cafe. ... more »
The building is simply stunning and worth a visit without even considering what is available on the inside. Its a nice walk along Argyle Street (west of Glasgow central). There are several shops, pub and restaurants along the walk. The building is free to enter, so I don't mind paying a little more for the food on offer (basic tea/coffee, sarnies and cakes). The entrance as you (hopefully) can tell from the attachment, is huge! There are several rooms leading from this central grand hall. Each room provides a collection of artifacts surrounding a similar theme. Animals, dinosaurs, beautiful sculptures of the mythological and historical. Art from Rembrandt and Dali (did nothing for me). A history of swords and armour. The Sunday (not sure if its done other days) we went there was an organist who played for a hour. Quite ethereal as it echoed around the building. We didn't rush by any means and had a cuppa at one point and we were there for three hours.
Wonderful to see a Dali, Mary Cassatt and learn more about Scottish history, ancient through modern, in this beautiful building. Reminded me of the V&A in London on a smaller scale. I was in Glasgow for work and was able to enjoy a quick 2 hour look around and take in some wonderful art and surroundings. As it was free entry there's open access to all and no reason not to visit. 10 minutes from closest subway and on lovely grounds next to the university of Glasgow. Don't miss it if you enjoy a little art fix followed by a nice walk in the park.
