  • A lovely historic castle that has been in the Lyon family since Robert the Bruce. The land inspired Shakespeare to use it in his play Macbeth, even though Macbeth had no connection to the area. Queen Mother grew up here, as it was her family estate and Dukedom. With a lovely Archive.
  • For me, the most enjoyable castle I have yet seen in Scotland. The mixture of very old and recent history makes it particularly interesting. I particularly loved the note written by the queen as a little girl.
