Must see · Monument · Landmark
One of the most talked about pieces of public art ever produced, The Angel of the North is a contemporary sculpture designed by Antony Gormley. Constructed from 200 tons (more than 440,000 lbs) of steel, this enormous angel towers above its surroundings, standing 20 m (66 ft) tall, with a wingspan stretching 54 m (177 ft). Weathered steel gives the angel a red color. Appreciate the piece from your car or up close on foot. For dramatic photos, visit at sunrise or sunset. • oh gosh. it is amazing. to walk up to the angel. i swear she bowed to us. a lovely rusty in set. yet so strong. gosh i do not know what to say. to sit on the angels foot. to see people just looking up at her. gosh, it really is mind blowing. we managed to park our car in a quiet moment. we spent a good hour there. gosh the people of the north east should be so proud to know an angel guards them 24 hours a day ..a lovely trip out. well worth it
  • Breathtaking! I have seen it so many times in passing but at last we stopped to have a real look! It really is a fantastic sculpture in scale and detail. My son was blown away and we got some great pictures. Would probably stop by again to have a picnic at its feet!
