Scott Monument, Edinburgh

4.5
A dark Gothic spire that towers above the Princes Street Gardens, Scott Monument pays homage to the author Sir Walter Scott. The dark color is not an intended effect, but comes from smoke stains--cleaning the spire would damage the stonework beneath the stains. Pay a fee to climb 287 steps to a viewing platform. The highest platform provides panoramic views over Edinburgh and acts as a counterpoint to Arthur's Seat. To visit Scott Monument on your trip to Edinburgh, use our Edinburgh holiday maker app .

  • In the middle of the city, near the train station, stands this dark, almost black, building from 1840. The park was unfortunately closed due to work, but the tower could be climbed.

  • Beautiful architectural Place. U can go till up to have a good view of the city. But there is a time limit till 5 p.m. It is near the princess garden and it is also surrounded by a beautiful garden. It near by the main railway station.
  • Didn't go up the tower as prices seemed pretty steep but the monument was pretty impressive to look at from the ground. It is an iconic gothic building that can be seen for miles around. Sitting center of the monument is a statue of Sir Walter Scott and the entire building acts as a memorial to him.
