Dean Village (from dene, meaning 'deep valley') is a former village immediately northwest of the city centre of Edinburgh, Scotland. It was known as the "Water of Leith Village" and was the centre of a successful grain milling area for more than 800 years. At one time there were no fewer than eleven working mills there, driven by the strong currents of the Water of Leith.

    LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Edinburgh in itself is very picturesque, but this place is even more. Charming old houses and tower like buildings along the river. Great place for walks and chilling down around nature. From there you can follow the short path either to the National galleries or the to the very nice area of Stockbridge.

    It is a nice place to walk through. I enjoy the quiet walks along the canal, and only wish it was larger. The old buildings are to be admired. I particularly enjoyed that it was a prominent part of the city, and was not left out.
