Must see · Historic Walking Area · Water Body
One of the most visited spots in the area, Tarn Hows consists of three lakes joined together in the 19th century in order to supply water to a local sawmill. During the height of the tourist season, the area gets packed with visitors who come here to enjoy the views of the Helvellyn Range and the Langdale Pikes. A series of trails lead through thick woodlands, noted for a wide variety of native plants and animals. You can walk or cycle along a path encircling the tarn, or use this spot as the beginning of your adventure further into the Lake District. Pack a picnic lunch, put on your favorite hiking shoes, charge your camera battery, and enjoy a relaxing day in the great outdoors.
