The illustrious Careway family built Carew Castle & Tidal Mill in its strategic location along a lowland river estuary. Take advantage of the unique location and the views from the parapets. Built on a site with over 2,000 years of occupation, researchers have even found Iron Age settlements on the same hill. With over a millennium of history, the castle has experienced many periods of growth and decline. The modern site is now heavily restored, so use the audio guide to bring it to life. Visit the tidal mill, a type of mill which turns with the rise and fall of the estuary waters--one of only four left in Britain. The mill is a fifteen-minute walk from the castle. Carew Castle & Tidal Mill Reviews
Bella la passeggiata che va dal parcheggio del castello al mulino, che sfruttava la chiusa del lago su cui si specchiano le rovine del castello di Carew. Fuori dai circuiti più turistici del Galles e ... more »The walk from the castle car park to the mill, which took advantage of the closure of the lake on which the ruins of Carew Castle are mirrored, is beautiful. Outside the most touristy circuits of Wales and isolated in the Welsh countryside is worth a stop if only for the beautiful photos that can be taken with the sunset.
We passed this castle one day on our way to Tenby, decided to visit it the next day. Got there at lunch time so had something to eat at the cafe, Dogs not allowed in cafe but plenty of benches outside... more »
Well worth a visit. The Castle is steeped in history and information displayed as you wander around. The tidal mill is also a must. Each floor has an audio presentation explaining the machinery present and how the flour was produced and transported away. Very informative.
Went with my 3 year old daughter. So much to do for children she loved it. It's now her favourite castle. Did the kids trail and got a chocolate treasure prize. Great value as you get to visit the castle and tidal mill. Beautiful location. Friendly staff. Good toilet facilities and good car parking next to the castle. They were setting up for an evening theatre performance as we were leaving so worth looking out for events. The cafe didn't have much selection of food which was a shame so we went to the pub across the road which has a great play area outside (food only served at certain times).
