Bute Park, Cardiff

4.7
#1 of 20 in Parks in Cardiff
Once the grounds of Cardiff Castle, Bute Park exists as the principal park in the city of Cardiff, with 52 hectares (130 acres) of landscaped gardens and parkland straddling the River Taff. Explore Blackfriars friary, an excavated ruin of a medieval friary. The arboretum boasts a varied selection of trees, many of which are the largest in the UK. Follow the herbaceous border while using the park's plant guide to learn about the species of plants within the park. Search for the many sculptures within, especially the wooden carvings made from old tree stumps. A handy place to rest, the West Lodge offers a visitor information center, tearoom, and public toilets. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Cardiff holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Bute Park and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • On a cold bright winters day or on a sunny summer afternoon, there is always an abundance of colour. The mature trees are home to many species of birds and squirrels, who love to be fed. It's great.....  more »

  • Gorgeous place with loads of space. Brilliant for a run, a bike ride, a game a sports between friends, a simple sit in the sun with a book, a picnic. Loads of space and things to look at, including lots of trees and the old canal where you might see ducks. Nearby is Cardiff Castle and multiple places to eat and drink.
  • I work in the centre of Cardiff and to have such a large park right in the centre is such a treat. The ornamental garden is always nicely maintained, and there are nice flat pavements for walking and running. There are also hundreds of little tracks through the trees that mean you can go off exploring without risking ending up in the middle of nowhere (even if it feels like you're miles from civilisation).
