  • A very odd statue, could do with some explanation for those who are unfamiliar with Chaucer. Could also benefit from a good clean up.  more »
  • Have passed by a number of times and never really stopped to read about the person who I always thought was Beckett but turned out to be Chaucer with all his tales around the plinth !!!  more »
  • Significant tribute to Chaucer ' the father of English literature'. Born c. 1343. Poet who was also had connections to the court of Richard II. The Canterbury Tales is represented, with images of well known Canterbury locals, being the faces of the pilgrims making the journey to the shrine of Thomas Beckett. The Tales were Chaucer's most famous work, an imagining of pilgrims stories told en route from London and back to help pass the time. Artist Sam Holland ARBS, and the designer of the large plinth, sculpted in bas-relief, Lynn O'Dowd.
